About Us
The Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations sets out to:
1. Promote agriculture, horticulture and the countryside through shows and other events.
2. Encourage and share best practice between agricultural societies and related organisations;
3. Encourage and support education across the full spectrum of agriculture, horticulture and the countryside through shows, conferences, projects and initiatives.
Conferences
The Association holds its Annual Conference in the Autumn hosted by one of the members' societies. There is a pre-Conference programme that includes leisure activities and a full Conference leisure programme for partners.
Consultative Bodies
The Association is consulted and included in regular discussions with: Breed Societies, Charity Commissioners, DCMS (Licensing), DEFRA, HOYS (Horse of the Year Show), Health and Safety Executive, Performing Rights Society, Police and Trading Standards.
Additional Services
The following are available to members of the Association:
1. PPL (Phonographic Performing Licence). Any show using pre-recorded music is liable to pay an annual sum for a Phonographic Performing Licence. The ASAO has arranged a fees collection service and reduced rates.
2. Health and Safety. A Mentor 24 hour/365 day telephone helpline is available, at additional cost, to answer questions, give advice and provide up-to-date information on legislation.
This is an area that is becoming increasingly difficult to negotiate and stay ahead of the game. There is no limit on the number of occasions the service can be used. Subjects that have come under the spotlight include: E-coli, car parks, passenger carrying trailers and ring construction.
