The Romsey Agricultural and Horse Show Society is holding its annual show on Saturday 10th September and will once again host an amazing range of animals and birds in its various classes, of the highest quality.
There will be Cattle of the highest quality including Dairy (Holstein and Open dairy), Beef (5 specific breeds plus Open Beef and Commercial beef), and Rare/Native breeds. There are also Young Handler classes for Under 12s, Under 15s and Under 25s – these are the show people of the future. Come and watch the milking; see where your daily pinta or weekly joint comes from.
Our Sheep includes classes for Native Lowland, Hill/Mountain or Longwood, Continental, Jacob, Rare & Minority breeds and Commercial lambs. Come see how your wooly jumper starts life.
Our judges explain what they are looking for and their reasons for placing animals in the winning order. Both they, our fantastic exhibitors and our knowledgeable stewards, are happy to answer queries.
The Cattle and Sheep conclude their long day by taking part in the Grand Parade in the President’s Ring. “This is an ideal time for people to see the results of everyone’s hard work” said Ruth Harper-Adams, Farm Committee Chairman who also added that “the Grand Parade commentators take time to explain the different breeds and what makes them different to the others”.
The Show Chairman, Penny Grabham, also highlighted that the Farm Centre “welcomes a display of water buffalo and pigs, hopefully with piglets, along with the Fur-and-Feather marquee which harks back to the 1800s when there was a separate Romsey Horse and Poultry Society”.
The Romsey Show Society started life 174 years ago organising a summer show and a winter Fat-stock show, both held in Market Place. 174 years later, the Society is still organising one of the highest quality livestock shows in the south and west, and one of the largest one-day agricultural and horse shows in the area.
Editors note: Show day is Saturday 10th September, 8am to 6pm, in Romsey
