Ardingly’s Smallholders & Country Show celebrates 30th anniversary
Celebrate country & rural living in a fun, friendly, entertaining & informative environment with The Smallholders & Country Show on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd July.
Now in it’s 30th year, The Smallholders & Country Show in Ardingly is an independent family run show to find anything you could want for your smallholding, small farm or large garden. Whether you are an experienced Smallholder, enthusiastic gardener, or simply take a keen interest in rural life, our show is a lovely day out for you & the whole family… including the dog! Join us over the weekend to experience the best of what the local countryside has to offer.
There is a full program of rural related family entertainment, including a Main Arena with exhilarating displays of canine agility from The Essex Dog Display Team, Huxley’s Birds of Prey in full flight, Big & Little’s hilarious horse display, Tractors & Vintage Machinery demonstration plus a medieval reenactment from The Far Isles Medieval Society.
The Lurcher & Companion Fun Dog Show is a great spectacle & open to any dog that visits the show. Think you have the most handsome pup? Or dog with the best movement? Then enter your beloved friend into any of the classes which will be judged by our dog experts with rosettes (and treats of course!) being awarded to the best in show. Live music, kids amusements, circus workshops, horse & wagon rides, have-a-go archery, Food Hall, shopping stalls & more should help to keep everyone in the family entertained.
Expert advisory & training groups are on hand for talks & demos on a variety of countryside, farming & smallholding issues for all levels of smallholder. The Small Farm Training Group (SFTG) aims to enable you to learn better farming, smallholding & horticultural skills through a series of enlightening taster talks that will be taking place over the weekend.
Whether you’re interested in keeping a couple of chickens in your garden or a window box of herbs, right through to making a living from a large piece of land with pigs, sheep & cattle, the West Sussex Smallholders Association & Kent Smallholders will both be at the show with their fabulous stands offering support, practical advice & products to purchase. Both are thriving groups with members from all walks of life with different levels of experience who come together in their respective associations to share their experiences & know-how to help anyone start & develop their interest in smallholding. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet, share & discuss your experiences with them.
Cattle, sheep, poultry, llamas, alpacas & other small animals can be found in our Robins Animal Building. Pop along to say hello, give them a pat on the head & perhaps even purchase one to take home with you. Craft stands ranging from homespun yarns to handmade wooden furniture will also be at the show along with a wide range of vintage vehicles including agricultural machinery such as tractors, ploughing machines, mowers ; commercial vehicles, pre & post war cars, motorcycles & stationary engines for you all to enjoy.
