Farm & Country Fair (Netherlands) organisers to join ASAO 2017 Conference line-up

Joke and Mariel Ruesink from the Farm and Country Fair in the Netherlands will be addressing ASAO 2017 Conference delegates on Sunday 5th November.

Joke (57) Ruesink is a farmer’s daughter and before she married, she used to work as a florist. Once married to her husband Erik, she started work on his family dairy farm.

Erik and Joke have 3 daughters. In 1990 they bought their neighbour’s farm and nowadays the Ruesink family run a farm with 175 dairy cows,Joke (57) Ruesink is a farmer’s daughter and before she married, she used to work as a florist. In 1990 they bought their neighbour’s farm and nowadays the Ruesink family run a farm with 175 dairy cows, just a few hundred metres down the road they also have a pig farm with 3,333 fattening pigs. The couple started organising their show 22 years ago.

Mariël (30) is the youngest daughter. She works together with her sister Suzanne and her parents Erik and Joke fulltime on both the farm and show. For the farm mainly office work, for the show she is involved in every possible job and she has her own responsibilities. Their other sister has an office job outside the farm, but is also very much involved in the show.

The main reason to start the Farm & Country Fair was the need to bridge the gap between farmers and citizens. The show became a success and grew each year. It started with 50 trade stands and 2000 visitors and it now attracts over 40.000 visitors with more than 450 trade stands.
