Women in Farming in the Spotlight at Network’s Conference

Teamwork is the subject of the Yorkshire Rural Support Network’s third Women in Farming Conference which takes place next month.
Entitled “Talking Teamwork – Better and Stronger Together”, the conference will explore successful collaborative working within rural businesses with speakers sharing their unique experiences.
The Network is part the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s work supporting the industry. The conference takes place on Tuesday 11th October 2016 at Pavilions of Harrogate at the Great Yorkshire Showground and is organised with the support of Barclays, Strutt & Parker, Coles Solicitors and RABI.
Elizabeth Hudson, the Society’s Charitable Activities Manager said: “The conference will celebrate women’s role in farming in its widest sense as the Society continues to promote British farming to help maintain a vibrant working countryside particularly in the north of England.
Women often have a different approach to teamwork and our speakers will share their individual messages of challenges and success. All have a wealth of experience in leading rural businesses and in understanding the dynamic of effective teamwork. The support of our sponsors is much appreciated”
Presenters will include Claire Whitfield, Partner (Land Management) with Strutt & Parker who will set the scene. Judith Wood, Barclays Agriculture Manager in Northallerton will Chair the event and speakers, include Julia and Olivia Warters of Humblebee Farm, Flixton near Scarborough, a farm diversification which offers camping, glamping and countryside activities and experiences, running alongside a commercial farming operation; Cheryl Garthwaite, Director of Blacker Hall Farmshop, Wakefield who will share her experience of developing the team at Blacker Hall and the business’s plans for the future.
In addition, Mandy Hildred, an Action Coach from North Yorkshire whose vision is to inspire business owners to reach their full potential will share her ideas, giving hints and tips for short and long term strategies for working on as well as in a business.

The event which runs from 10.30 – 2.30pm, costs £10/head which includes a buffet lunch. Coles Solicitors are kindly providing a Yorkshire Hamper and will draft a pair of Wills for a raffle. Raffle proceeds will be given to The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
